Your Choice For Dental Fillings in Vancouver
Dental Fillings
If your tooth is damaged or decayed, Aegis Dental Centre is pleased to offer dental fillings to restore your tooth’s function and shape.
What is a dental filling?
One of the most common reasons to visit your dentists is to get a filling placed. Frequently it is due to cavities or chips being discovered at your routine check-up. A dental filling essentially ‘fills’ any holes or spaces in your teeth resulting from cavities or injuries. These fillings tend to be minor and preventative. Your dentist will clean the affected area, and then fill the cleaned-out capacity with a filling material.
Unfortunately, at times you may need emergency dental treatment from a cavity not being filled proactively. The good news is that Dr. Falsafi always accept dental emergencies, so if you are feeling any discomfort, contact us at Aegis Dental Centre.
It is important to catch cavities in early stages so that bigger problems can be avoided, like more tooth structure loss. When cavities are allowed to get larger, the tooth may require more than a filling. It could potentially require a root canal or dental crown.
Types of fillings
There are several types of fillings, including silver amalgam fillings, gold fillings, and tooth-coloured composite resin fillings. The Dentists at Aegis Dental Centre use only mercury-free composite resin fillings.
Benefits of composite fillings
- Match and blend with tooth enamel, and dentin so look natural
- Chemically bonded to tooth structure causing no leakage
- Require less aggressive tooth structure preparation
Composite resin fillings contain particles of silica or ceramics in a polymer matrix. They can be blended to match the colour of the surrounding tooth, making them very esthetically pleasing. The dentist can also be more conservative with the preparation of the teeth.
As with most dental restorations, composite fillings are not permanent and may someday have to be replaced. Usually, composite fillings need to be replaced within ten years.
Root Canal Therapy
Most people have pre-conceived notions that a root canal is filled with pain and discomfort. In fact, root canal therapy doesn’t cause pain. It actually relieves it! Advances in dental technology have made root canal therapy virtually a pain-free experience.
When the inside, or pulp of a tooth becomes infected, you feel pain. Removing the pulp (blood vessels, nerves, and connective tissue) inside your tooth will only affect your perception of hot and cold; the tooth can survive without the pulp.
Root Canal Therapy Relieves Tooth Pain And Saves Your Tooth!
Root canal therapy could save the life of your decayed or infected tooth. The procedure begins by administering a local anesthetic to relieve tooth pain and discomfort. Aegis Dental Centre offers painless dental injections that make this dental treatment more comfortable than ever before!

At Aegis Dental Centre, we strive to stand out from the competition. We focus on creating a fun and friendly environment, which is relaxing for children and helps them feel comfortable while receiving treatment.
We also prioritize education to help kids develop good habits for their future. We work with children and their parents to teach the proper way to brush and floss the teeth, what kind of toothpastes to use, and what a healthy and balanced diet looks like.
Perhaps most important, we treat every patient like an individual. Treatment is not meant to be “one size fits all.” Instead, we can customize your child’s care plan to better accommodate their own needs, including whether or not they need sedation dentistry or more specialized oral care.

Tooth Extraction
Wisdom teeth removal is a common procedure. But what exactly is it?
Wisdom teeth are the last molars to develop on either side of the jaw, breaking through after a patient has fully grown (between the ages of 16 and 20). You have probably heard many people talking about having their wisdom teeth removed, but it doesn’t happen in all cases.
If the molars have enough room to erupt in the jaw, and are healthy and well-positioned, they can be left alone, and function effectively with your existing bite. We provide tooth extractions in NE Calgary to prevent future dental issues from arising.
Why is Tooth Extraction Necessary?
Contact our dental office today to schedule your appointment for a tooth extraction near you. Our dentist would be happy to evaluate your mouth and determine if you are a candidate for this procedure.
If there is no space in the jaw for the wisdom teeth to grow in, then they can become impacted as a result. This term means that the tooth has no place to move within the jaw, and then causes issues by either beginning to move in places they shouldn’t (e.g. sideways into the jaw) or becoming trapped in place within the gum, causing pain and putting the patient at risk for infection or damage to the surrounding teeth. For this reason, if wisdom teeth are impacted, receiving a tooth extraction in Vancouver, BC V6M 4B9 is recommended.

It’s common to experience some swelling and pain, but with good after-care, most patients can expect a quick recovery. If there are any follow-up issues, however, we will treat you promptly and effectively. Gum Disease Treatment
Have inflamed, red, sensitive, or prone to bleeding gums? You’re probably in the early stages of gum disease. Contact us today!
Aegis Dental Centre: Keeping Gum Disease Away from Your Life
Periodontal disease or gum disease is mainly caused by bacteria from plaque and tartar build up. Other factors that have the potential to cause Periodontal disease may include tobacco use, clenching or grinding your teeth, certain medications and genetics.
Periodontal disease – also known as gingivitis and periodontitis – is most easily identified by the visible symptoms it causes as it progresses.
In its beginning stages, a periodontal disease often causes no symptoms at all, making it difficult for the average person to notice. With time, bacteria begin causing inflammation in the gums, which may result in reddening or gums that are tender, swollen and easily bleed. As bacteria continue to proliferate, the teeth may begin to appear longer due to a receding gum line. Eventually, pockets may begin to form between the gums and teeth, which can lead to loosened teeth or total tooth loss. Other symptoms of periodontal disease may include chronic bad breath and mouth sores.
What is gum treatment and cleaning?
Deep gum treatment is a procedure in which a dentist or hygienist deep-cleans the teeth and gums. It is necessary when the patient experiences an infection or develops gum disease.
A dental cleaning is a routine hygiene appointment that helps keep our patient’s teeth and gums healthy, thereby preventing gum disease.
How Gum Treatment and Cleaning are Done?
Here is what our patients can expect when they visit a gum treatment and cleaning dentist.
Preventative Cleaning
During a routine dental cleaning, the dentist or hygienist will use various instruments to remove plaque and tartar build-up. One of the steps of a gum treatment and cleaning is to check the health of the gums by measuring the depth of the gum pockets around the teeth. The provider will finish by polishing the teeth. The dentist may take x-rays and perform an oral examination to check for decay or oral cancer, too.
Scaling and Root Planning
Patients who present with gum disease need a deeper cleaning as their gum pockets are deeper and they have more plaque and tartar build-up.
Typically, two appointments are scheduled, with one side of the mouth treated at a time. The hygienist or dentist will numb the gum tissue to keep the patient comfortable while they clean below the gum line. At this appointment, they may administer antibiotic treatment directly into the gum pockets.
