Dental Implants
Dental Implants Are The best Solution for Replacing Missing Teeth!
Dental implants are precisely engineered, bio-friendly posts that are placed into the jaw bone in the place of a tooth root and capped with a restoration. A dental implant can be used to replace a single tooth, or to support dental bridges and dentures, for replacing multiple teeth.
With Dental Implants, You can Eat, Speak and Smile with Confidence
Dental implant technology has changed the face of tooth replacement. For a single missing tooth, Dr. Falsafi recommends a dental implant, because it restores full chewing power and doesn’t require damaging healthy teeth to accommodate a support for it. Additionally, an implant is usually expected to last a lifetime.
For some people, a conventional dental bridge can be more workable for a person’s lifestyle and budget. In those cases, we provide a high-quality, natural-looking dental bridge.
Bone Grafts
Bone grafting is a surgical procedure that involves replacing missing bone, repairing bone fractures or fixing joints.
At Aegis Dental Centre, we offer different bone grafting options:
- Allograft – This is a graft that uses donated bone from a genetically similar organism (human bone); it has been cleaned, prepared and stored in a tissue bank
- Xenograft – This graft uses bone from a genetically dissimilar organism to humans (animal bone)
In dentistry, bone grafting is typically performed to increase bone mass underneath the gums in order to place an implant screw in a patient’s jaw. Over time, the bone graft fuses to the implant (osseointegration).
Bone Grafts in conjunction with implants
The reason this procedure is done is because without enough bone, the implant will be unstable due to a lack of support. For example, someone who has been without teeth for an extended period of time will experience a loss of bone in their gums. If they decide to get an implant and crown, they will have to undergo a bone graft procedure.
Depending on your situation, bone grafts may be placed at the same time as an implant, or before the implant. Our dentists will provide you details on a timeline that optimizes the healing and effectiveness of the graft.
Dental Bridges & Crowns
A permanent solution to damaged and missing teeth
Aegis Dental Centre offers crown and bridge work as part of our suite of dental services. If you are missing a tooth or have damaged teeth, then crowns or bridges could be the answer.
If you want a permanent solution to damaged, decayed or unsightly teeth that do not need removal, Dental Crowns may be the solution.
Crowns can help restore your smile and repair the structure & function of any damaged tooth. Crowns provide:
- Durability
- Prevent further breakdown of tooth structure
- Improve normal mouth functions such as eating and speaking
- Improve facial structure
- Restore confidence by improving your smile
The purpose of a crown is to act like a protective cap for the damaged tooth. They fully cover the damaged portion of a tooth which lies at or above the gum line. Not to be confused with composite resin fillings, inlays and onlays that only fill in or cover over just a portion of a tooth, dental crowns encase the entire visible part of a tooth. They effectively become the tooth’s new outer surface.
Dental bridges help restore natural contour
When a tooth is lost or removed, it can cause more than just an unsightly gap. A missing tooth will cause bone loss of the jaw, additional strain on the adjacent teeth and can affect your speech and ability to chew correctly. Dental bridges are an option for fixing missing teeth and preventing these harmful side effects.
Dental bridges are an effective way to replace missing teeth. Your existing teeth are used to literally create a “bridge” between adjacent teeth. They are typically made from ceramic or a ceramic alloy combination to ensure that they are strong and durable.
Ultimately, for replacing a missing tooth, bridges are a close second to implants in quality and longevity. If the conditions are met, implants will always be the better option. Nevertheless, bridges can give your smile a boost with the appearance of full, healthy teeth and also allow you to get back to eating and speaking normally with added confidence.
Invisalign
Straighten Your Teeth With Invisalign!
This alternative to traditional bracket-and-wire braces can be an excellent way to get the even teeth you’ve always wanted. Invisalign treatments use custom-made, fitted acrylic aligner trays that are clear and virtually invisible. You simply wear each tray for a certain period before switching to the next one.
When you visit Aegis Dental Centre, we will have a consultation to determine if Invisalign is right for you. This decision can depend on the complexity of issues and your history with prior dental work.
If we decide that this option suits you, our team will take detailed records using scans, X-rays, and photographs of your face, teeth, and jaw. Then, we use 3D computer imaging technology to create a treatment plan based on these records and your needs. We map out every stage of repositioning, from your initial teeth to your final smile.
Once these visuals are complete, we will send them out for tray manufacturing. Your entire set typically arrives at our clinic after a few weeks, where you will begin your journey with your first aligner.
You will need to wear each tray for one to two weeks before switching to the next one in your set. Depending on the complexity of your case, you may go through 20 to 50 aligners over 12 to 18 months. For repositioning to stay on course, you must wear your aligners for at least 22 hours daily.
We may also recommend that you visit us after a few months so we can ensure your treatment is going as planned — we are here to help your smile every step of the way!
Am I Suitable For Invisalign?
While many patients are ideal for this treatment, this option may not be suitable for more severe issues, like extreme overbite and tooth rotation, significant gaps, and intrusion and extrusion that require raising or lowering your teeth. Additionally, Invisalign may not work for you if you need dental surgery or have implants, bridges, or TMJ issues.
Some circumstances that would make you a good candidate for this corrective option include the following:
- Mild overbite or underbite
- Crossbite
- Open bite
- Gapped teeth
- Crowded teeth
Full mouth rehabilitation
Full mouth rehabilitation is a dental procedure that combines several restorative dental treatments to fix and restore beautiful smiles. Also known as full mouth reconstruction, this treatment option can repair broken, chipped, or cracked teeth. It also addresses tooth damage due to infection, decay, and other dental issues.
If your tooth is infected, broken, or chipped, it cannot recover without dental restoration.
A chip or crack on your tooth’s enamel can worsen over time, increasing the risk of chronic infections and decay. Prevention is always better than cure. You can rely on full mouth rehabilitation to address a wide range of dental issues, eliminate risks, and protect your oral health.
At Aegis Dental Centre we will examine your mouth to determine the extent of the problem and the treatment options that can be used to correct it. In particular, he or she will examine the condition of your:
- Teeth: The condition of your teeth will determine what restorative procedures may be needed, such as porcelain veneers or full-coverage crowns, inlays or onlays, bridges or implants restored with a crown. In particular, your dentist will make note of any cavities and decay, tooth wear, cracks, short/long teeth, root canal issues and any tooth movement.
- Periodontal (gum) tissues: If your gums are not healthy, you will most likely need scaling and root planing to treat periodontal disease. You may require more intensive treatments from a periodontist to ensure that your newly reconstructed teeth will have a solid foundation. Such treatments could involve soft tissue or bone grafts to build up your gums and underlying jaw bone. Your dentist will look for deep pockets, excessive or insufficient gum tissue, periodontal disease and bone density irregularities.
- Temporomandibular joints, jaw muscles and occlusion: A stable bite – one in which you are not in pain when you close your mouth or chew and one that does not cause wear or destruction of your teeth – is important to your overall oral health. Occlusal changes need to be taken into consideration when your dentist plans your restorations. In fact, you may require orthodontics or some other type of treatment (night guard or bite reprogramming orthotic) to correct occlusion before additional restorative procedures can be performed.
- Esthetics: The color, shape, size and proportion of your teeth, and how they appear in relation to your gums, lips, mouth, side profile and face, are also important factors in full mouth reconstruction.
The examination process requires records of your mouth, such as X-rays and photographs, impressions of your upper and lower teeth, models of your teeth that are made from the impressions and a model of your bite. Your dentist may also refer you to specialists (periodontist, orthodontist, oral surgeon) for a consultation in order to develop a treatment plan that is best for you.
Once we have obtained all information relevant to your case, we will develop a comprehensive, step-by-step treatment plan to correct all of the problems in your mouth and complete your reconstruction.
