Microscope enhanced dentistry

Advances in technology continue to improve the delivery and the quality of treatment that dentists are able to provide to their patients. Microscope-enhanced dentistry is a relatively new technology in the world of dentistry. Aegis Dental Centre has a reputation as an innovative office and is able to offer microscope-enhanced dentistry to its patients. This unique instrument allows for unprecedented magnification and precision of detail during dental procedures.

When the microscope is used to enhance a dental procedure the patient’s teeth are magnified into a large TV screen, which enables the dentist to have a more clear and accurate view of the patient’s mouth. Microscope-enhanced dentistry can be used for a huge variety of treatments. E.g. dental surgery performed with assistance of the microscope results in:

    Digital Dentistry

Our team is passionate about being an industry leader when it comes to the adoption of new technology and advancements. Digital dentistry may be defined in a broad scope as any dental technology or device that incorporates digital or computer-controlled components in contrast to that of mechanical or electrical alone.

While there are certainly many advantages of digital dentistry there are three main benefits of using this cutting-edge technology.

There are many other areas of digital dentistry available, and many more are being researched. It is an exciting time to be in the dental profession as more technologies are being introduced that make dentistry easier, faster, better and most importantly, enjoyable!

    Digital Impressions

Digital impressions are a form of technology that, through the use of lasers and other optical scanning devices, allows dentists to create a virtual, computer-generated replica of the hard and soft tissues in the mouth. Using digital impression technology dentists are able to capture high-quality, accurate and clear impressions in just minutes without the use of messy molds and plaster.

Many of our patients find that digital impressions are an easier and more comfortable procedure than traditional methods used to form impressions.

The process of taking digital impressions is pain-free and non-invasive. The impression is typically captured using an intra-oral wand that is moved over the surface of the patient’s teeth. This can all be done chairside with the aid of a monitor to display the images for both the dentist and patient to see. The data is then transmitted electronically to the dental laboratory on site for use in restoration fabrication. The final restoration can be done during the same appointment.

    Digital Radiographs (X-rays)

Dental professionals today are increasingly using digital dental radiographs (digital X-rays) to better detect, diagnose, treat, and monitor oral conditions and diseases.

Digital radiography is a type of X-ray imaging that uses digital X-ray sensors to replace traditional photographic X-ray film, producing enhanced computer images of teeth, gums, and other oral structures and conditions.

Digital dental images are acquired through three methods: the direct method, indirect method and semi-indirect method. The direct method uses an electronic sensor placed in the mouth to record images. The indirect technique uses an X-ray film scanner to view traditional dental X-rays as digital images. The semi-indirect digital technique combines a sensor and scanner to convert dental X-rays into digital film.
