In some cases, there are steps you can take to ensure the best possible outcome before seeing your emergency dentist in Vancouver. Listed below are a few tips for some common dental related injuries such as loss of temporary crown, knocked out tooth, broken tooth, cut to mouth, lip or tongue, suspected broken jaw and severe toothache.
Knocked Out Tooth
Contact us immediately. The sooner the tooth is replaced, the greater the likelihood it will survive. Until you can be seen by a dentist, carefully push the tooth back into the socket with your fingers and hold it in place with your fingers or by gently biting down on it. If you cannot re-insert the tooth back into the socket, the tooth must be kept moist until you can be seen. Place the tooth into one of the following: in the mouth (next to cheek or under tongue) or in milk.
Broken Tooth
Rinse immediately with warm water. Apply ice to the affected area to reduce swelling.
Cut Mouth, Lip or Tongue
Apply firm pressure to the area. If bleeding does not stop after a few minutes, proceed to your nearest emergency room.
Suspected Broken Jaw
If you suspect your jaw may be broken, apply ice to the affected area and proceed to your local emergency room immediately.
The purpose of a crown is to act like a protective cap for the damaged tooth. They fully cover the damaged portion of a tooth which lies at or above the gum line. Not to be confused with composite resin fillings, inlays and onlays that only fill in or cover over just a portion of a tooth, dental crowns encase the entire visible part of a tooth. They effectively become the tooth’s new outer surface.
Severe Toothache
We strive to do our very best to have you seen by an emergency dentist in Vancouver immediately. However, if you are experiencing intense bleeding or your emergency extends beyond dental care, please go to the nearest emergency room right away.
